Did I mention that she is an uber-biker too!?!?  Anyway, this reinforces my philosophy about food:   Be mindful but not militant.  And it’s always good to reset you body a couple  of times a year.  On Sunday, we hosted a superbowl party–I was pretty good about my eating (lotsa raw carrots, salsa, vegan chili)  until the end when I spied a few leftover ginger cookies that Sherri and Hannah Kredich had brought.  8 cookies and 30 seconds later they were gone……oooops!  I snapped them up the way my dog, Tempo, reacts when there is a toddler with Cheerios around.

I’m getting ready for race season and it is hard to believe that the first race is 8 weeks away.   It’s time to tighten up the eating regime (at least during the week).   This morning I quickly concocted a couple of  smoothies for both me and Geoff. The great thing about smoothies is that you can put ANYTHING into them….

Vanilla-Pineapple-Raspberry Smoothie spiked with Superfoods

Pineapple Raspberry Vanilla Protein Smoothie

  • 6 ounces Sprouted Almond Milk (we make our own at Juice Nation)
  • 1/2 Cup Frozen Pineapple
  • 1/4 Cup frozen Raspberries
  • 1/2 Banana
  • 1 Date, pitted
  • 1 Scoop Vega Vanilla Recovery Protein Powder
  • 1 Tbsp Ground Flax Seeds
  • 1 Tbsp Chia Seeds
  • 2 tsp Green Mineral Powder
  • Water to adjust consistency

Blend everything into a high speed blender for a minute.  I have started to use frozen fruit  as using it eliminates the need for ice and the nutritional quality is pretty good as fruit is typically flash frozen as soon as it is picked–as opposed to blueberries that are shipped from Chile and spend a week or two in transit, storage and display before getting into your mouth.
