Welcome to Foodsense, Now! My name is Leslie Myers, and I have been the chef-athlete and mastermind of this outfit since 2009. As a young adult I started as an endurance athlete, and racing triathlons is my first love. Currently I am a proud member of the Nytro Women’s Racing Team. I am a multiple Kona Ironman finisher, and Ironman Age-Group champion five times over.

Be mindful, not militant is my approach to training, nutrition, and every-day eating: the way I see it we can enjoy the occasional donut or buttery pastry and still stay on track. Foodsense, Now is a Solana Beach-based company here in So Cal focused on whole-food, plant-forward, and gluten-free nutrition for athletically minded people. A self-proclaimed “qualitarian” of food, and graduate of the world renowned Culinary Institute of America, I teach private cooking classes and conduct foodie corporate wellness events across southern California.

I also work with athletes who want to improve nutrition for better performance by customizing healthy eating plans. Dinner on a Tuesday night might be cumin-scented roasted salmon with cauliflower-rice tabbouleh, with a couple of squares of dark chocolate. A typical breakfast could be a couple of fried eggs with half of an avocado all atop sourdough toast. I teach my clients approaches to cooking and eating for training or health that feature vibrant, whole-foods that isn’t expensive or difficult to prepare, and is delicious and satisfying too.

As both a life-long foodie and a classically trained chef, it might be obvious that food is what drives me. I often wander through grocery stores and farmer’s markets, home brewed dark roast coffee (or kombucha) in hand, checking out new ingredients while smelling the proverbial flowers and dreaming of how to incorporate them all into dinner. I love cruising up and down the coast in search of the perfect fish taco.

You might be thinking that this competitive athlete and clean eating chef doesn’t understand how real people live. But imagine me back in the late 1990’s: a restaurateur in Vermont, smoking Virginia Slim menthol lights in the back alley of Nectar’s at the end of a long dinner shift. When I hit 35 I made huge changes to my own lifestyle and diet, and I am now dedicated to teaching others how to change their habits too.

It is my mission at Foodsense, Now to combine my passion for wholefoods with my expertise in the kitchen to deliver classes that inspire people to eat mindfully, and find the confidence in their kitchens to prepare quality meals for themselves and their loved ones. Home cooking is the root of healthy eating! I apply these big ideas when I develop recipes and optimal eating plans.

I have appeared numerous times as a guest on San Diego Living, and I have taught high profile classes at Sur La Table and Great News. I have published foodie pieces and recipes online and in print. When I am not racing endurance sports and cooking, you might spot me out and about in North County, or at Dog Beach with my husband, Geoff, and our dog, Tempo.
